“The modern artist is working with space and time, and expressing his feelings rather than illustrating.”
-Jackson Pollock
Where does it all come from, and how can one have it better channeled through them? From my own personal experience as well as clues left behind from the great thinkers and artists from days past, I believe it has to do with the notion of knowing versus thinking. Sounds like a simple enough broad notion, but how can one cut this notion down into more easily understood and obtainable bite size pieces?
Well, I feel the problem that most encounter on this notion is that they will think about it to no end, thus creating a vicious cycle of thinking about trying not to think. It’s a paradox unto itself. So it’s best for one to visualize that the notion is one in the same with dreaming; let the mind carry you to its own creation. Let go of your logic, just breath and let the subconscious whisk you away to your full mind capacity. I feel like the logical three-dimensionally present mind is almost sort of our worst enemy in this notion, so it’s best to learn to tune that out for certain aspects of life. Meditation teaches one to go deeper into one’s mind sacrificing power output to the body the deeper you go, trading it for higher processing power.
The mind is a window, look through it; do not get lost in your own reflection in the glass.
